What we’re looking for: We’re looking for science fiction short story collections. No fantasy or horror…just science fiction. We’re looking to do collections that are a blend of previously published works and new works, so we’re afraid that we can’t review submissions from unpublished authors.
Length: The number of stories isn’t really important to us. We want to put out collections that run 70,000-100,000 words.
Rights: For previously published stories, we’re looking for reprint rights, and for unpublished stories, we’re looking for first rights.
Payment: At this time, we can’t pay an advance. We’re hoping to change that, but for now we’re offering 10% royalties paid quarterly.
Response Times: We will respond to your submission within three months of submission. Most of the time it will be much sooner, but if you haven’t heard from us after three months, please query. Just to let you know, all rejections will be form letters. It saves time, and it avoids hostile e-mails from upset writers.
Submission Format: We would like to see two stories in each submission…preferably the two stories that show the diversity of your writing skills. We’d also like to see a list of the other stories you’d like to include, and a one paragraph summary of what each story is about. If we like the initial stories, and the summaries appeal to us, we will request to see the other stories before we make a final decision.
